Welcome to The Alberta Flood Rose Project.  
The flood waters rose... Albertans rose to the challenge!


In the days leading up to June 19, 2013, Alberta, Canada, experienced heavy rainfall that triggered catastrophic flooding described by the provincial government as the worst in Alberta's history.

During July 2013, The Alberta Flood Rose Project was formed and invited all Calgary and area working visual artists to create and donate an original, unframed 4"x4" (inch) piece of wall art, depicting the provincial flower of Alberta, the wild rose. 

Over 450 artists participated.

The finished pieces were arranged into eight groups of 81, and were framed together as larger "collection" pieces. 

After being on display in public locations during August, the framed art pieces were up for auction at The Flood of Roses Auction in Calgary, on August 28, 2013 with over $25,000 raised in support of Red Cross flood relief.  The pieces then went on the TREX tour of Alberta, with the Alberta Society of Artists for a year, before being returned to their new owners.

The depiction of the Alberta rose symbolizes the pride unifying these Alberta artists. The number of artists participating shows how many committed Alberta artists were willing to help restore the damage done by the flood, and help those in need.

We shot for the stars and worked TOGETHER, to make a big impact toward helping those uprooted by the flood.

How did this idea start? 
As a Calgary artist, I wasn't sure how I could best help in the aftermath of the June 2013 flood.  I didn't think I alone could have much impact, but knowing the generous nature of Calgary artists, I was pretty sure that TOGETHER we could make a significant contribution.  The Alberta Flood Rose Project began on Friday, June 28, 2013.
